Rimon Law Welcomes Information Management Legal Pioneer John Isaza as a Partner in its Orange County Office
Isaza has been involved in global issues of data management and security for over a decade; Associate Omero Bañuelos will also join the firm in Los Angeles.
Laguna Beach, CA/San Francisco, CA (March 27, 2012) John Isaza, a pioneering information governance attorney who has represented clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses in handling the increasingly critical and global legal issues of records and information management (RIM), has joined Rimon Law, P.C. as a partner in its new Orange County (CA) office.
Mr. Isaza will serve as the Head of Rimon’s new Information Management Practice.
Mr. Isaza joins Rimon from his partnership in the Howett Isaza Law Group, LLP. In addition, Omero Bañuelos, who works with Mr. Isaza as a Senior Associate, will join Rimon in the new Los Angeles office. Together, they serve as founding members of Rimon’s new Information Management practice group.
The practice focuses on providing recordkeeping advice to clients for compliance at a domestic level and in over 130 countries to date. “With the emphasis on transparent recordkeeping in acts such as Sarbanes-Oxley and the more recent Dodd-Frank Act, our practice sits at the epicenter of corporate compliance,” says Isaza. “Add to that the complexities of foreign requirements such as strict data privacy protection standards, and you have a perfect storm for clients to seek us out.”
In addition to his private practice experience, Mr. Isaza previously served as in-house general counsel to a publicly traded medical device manufacturer now owned by Abbott Laboratories. “My experience as GC of a global organization helped me appreciate recordkeeping and compliance from the perspective of our clients. Things are not always black and white, as most would like to believe. Much of it is about risk management, which is why my clients come to me.”
Mr. Isaza has served as both past president of the Greater Los Angeles chapter of ARMA (The Authority on Managing Records and Information) and a member of the ARMA International Board of Directors. He is the co-author of 7 Steps for Legal Holds of ESI & Other Documents, a contributing author to the upcoming Internet Law, Second Edition of the ABA, and the recipient of ARMA’s prestigious Britt Literary Award. Mr. Isaza was inducted as a Fellow of ARMA International in 2011.
“Data management and security has rapidly become one of the most critical areas of concern for virtually every company in almost every industry. Every day we hear of a company facing down the problem of data breach and the cost of losing control over your business’ information can be catastrophic for companies, whether they are facing large scale litigation losses, regulatory penalties or a devastating hit to the reputation. John has established a reputation as one of the best in the information management field, and we are thrilled to have him and Omero join the Rimon team,” said Michael Moradzadeh, co-managing partner at Rimon PC.
Mr. Isaza and Mr. Bañuelos represent the eighth and ninth attorneys to join Rimon’s rapidly expanding practice in the last six months. In just over four years, Rimon has become widely recognized as an innovator in the legal field, offering a full service of practices based solely on our present client needs, able to shift and adapt to challenges quickly and to serve even on an as-needed individual basis.
In addition to his work in information governance and records management, Mr. Isaza has an additional decade of experience as trial lawyer specializing in complex business litigation, environmental contamination, product liability and construction defects. During that time, Mr. Isaza served as past President of the Hispanic Bar Association of Orange County and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Orange County Bar Association.
“I am proud to be associated with Rimon. It’s a highly efficient law firm with experienced and knowledgeable attorneys, employing innovation and fair pricing models, excellent technology and client-oriented service,” said Mr. Isaza.
Mr. Isaza’s Associate, Omero Bañuelos, also joins Rimon directly from the Howett Isaza Law Group. Mr. Bañuelos has extensive experience handling litigation in both state and federal courts. In addition to his active work in the data management and security field, Mr. Bañuelos has also handled employment, community associations, business disputes, real property, class actions, construction defects, and administrative complaints and hearings. Mr. Bañuelo’s practice has focused on transactional matters including drafting and negotiating contracts, asset purchase agreements, and employment policy and procedures.
Mr. Bañuelos is currently a Mediator for the Los Angeles County Superior Court Mediation Panel for Civil Harassment and Community Associations Institute, LA Chapter.
Mr. Isaza received his J.D. from Boston College Law School and his B.A. from the University of Florida. Mr. Bañuelos received his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law and his B.A. from UCLA.
